1.La Leona Waterfall Hike and River Tubing

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 90 reviews · 4 to 5 hours (approx.) · from $90Our pick

You’ll hike through forest and river channels to La Leona Waterfall, crossing streams, climbing short ladders, and pulling yourself by rope into a cave for a swim. Then you’ll spend about 90 minutes tubing through the Rincon de la Vieja region. Guides such as Ronnie, Brandy, Victor, and Diego lead the route and handle safety.

“Well organized experience, we started with tubing down a river which was a lot of fun! The guides were cool and professionnal. Then, we did the 30mns hike to the waterfall which involves some swimming on the way. Of course, you have to wear life jackets all the time. I've been told it can be pretty busy in the morning, but being there around 2-3 pm worked out great for us since we didn't see many people.”

Combo White Water Rafting and Tubing in La Fortuna

4.Combo White Water Rafting and Tubing in La Fortuna

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 62 reviews · 6 hours 30 minutes (approx.) · from $90

Spend about six and a half hours rafting and tubing on a river near La Fortuna. You will receive safety training and equipment, stop for fresh fruit, then finish with lunch, coffee, an organic farm walk, and a sugarcane demonstration. The tubing is active white-water tubing, not a lazy river ride.

“Unfortunately the outflow of the river was reduced by the power company due to some maintenance issue so we were not able to get the tour we were expecting. We were not able to tube the last portion of the trip due to safety concerns. The first part of the tour was as advertised however we did pay extra to tube the last part and we ended up with rafting the last portion on a very diminished flow. I understand the safety aspect but feel we overpaid for what we received.”

“Amazing experience. We did the zip lining/ rappel and tubing down the rapids plus hot springs at the end. So much fun. We have done zip lining several times in the past and these lines seemed really fast. The tour guides on both experiences were amazing. The tubing in the rapids has been the highlight of our trip so far. My group was my family of six ages, 21, 23, 24, 43, 44 and my mom 67! The compassion that was shown to my mom on the rapids is un heard of. She flipped over (which most of our group did) and one of the tour guides said “(Mama) I’m…”

“Our experience hiking to La Leona Waterfall was absolutely unforgettable, a true highlight of our 50th-anniversary celebration! From the moment we met our amazing guide, Noel, we knew we were in for something special. Noel's expertise and enthusiasm truly enhanced every aspect of the adventure. This wasn't just an ordinary hike; it was an exhilarating exploration. We felt the thrill of sliding down a natural rock waterslide and took exhilarating leaps from huge boulders into the refreshing river below. The journey itself was an adventure, as we climbed over and under impressive boulders and navigated fallen trees, adding an element of fun and challenge to the trek. Although parts of…”
